From the day about five years ago, when I started using an iPod I always thought someone had to solve the problem of the Shuffle inconsistency: whether you listen to your own predesigned playlists (and end up listening always the same old stuff) or you use Shuffle but have to deal with absurd combinations (like going non stop from Rage Against the Machine to Peter Cetera!).
Well, Apple finally did what I have been waiting all these years!
In the new version of iTunes launched this week (v8.0) they added Genius. When you activate it, Genius analyzes all your library and from then on allows you to take a any song as a starting point and creates a playlist of as many songs as you want that “match up well” with the one you chose.
That way you can choose music without preselecting all songs one by one (adding the advantage of Shuffle) but without the ridiculous jumps between songs.
Genius also adds a toolbar which, based on the song you select, recommends similar music that you do not have in your library so you can buy it.
Someone finally heard my prayers. Thanks, Apple!
